Bib Numbers & T-Shirts: How to pick them up!

A Pre-Packet Pickup and live registration will be held on Saturday, June 25th from 2pm - 6pm in the Union Bank parking lot at:

800 Orange Ave, Coronado, CA 92118

Participants can pick up packets for friends and families if they bring a signed waiver (which can be found >here<) for that absent person.

Bibs and T-shirts will be available for pickup here!

There will also be registration and bib pick up on the day of the event at CAMP SURF (560 Silver Strand Blvd, Imperial Beach, CA 91932), Sunday June 26th from 6am until the race starts at 8am. T-shirts on race day will be given out at the end of the race.

What is the Low Tide Ride & Stride?

Just once a year the US Navy makes a special exception for a thousand runners and bikers to enjoy an unspoiled and protected 8-mile stretch of beach between Imperial Beach and Coronado’s North Beach. (Click here to see a map of the course).

The annual Low Ride and Stride event, put on by Coronado Rotary, is a completely unique, family-oriented experience that cannot be replicated anywhere else in the country.  The race has grown dramatically since it began over 18 years ago and offers challenges to the ardent athlete and excitement for the youngsters and participants who are out for the view, the sand and a beach that has been voted in the top 10 worldwide many times.

Participants include runners, bike riders of all ages and bike styles. The low tide allows them to follow the beach line from the start line at the YMCA to the finish line just beyond the Hotel Del Coronado facing the approach end of the Naval Air Station approach runway.

The Navy normally closes this stretch of beach to the public, which is used for Navy SEAL training and the finish line is just short of the Air Station flight line. The majority of funds raised by LTR&S are earmarked for programs which focus on Creating Opportunities for Wounded VETS and other worthy causes which support our military.  Be on the lookout for news and updates regarding this year’s LTR&S event.

FAQs: Frequently Asked Questions


Here are some answers to questions we are frequently asked. If the answer to your question isn't provided below, please feel free to contact us!

What are my transport/parking options getting to and from the event?

There are FREE shuttles to bring participants to and from the start/finish. Please be reminded that there are no bikes allowed on these shuttles.

The race starts at 8:00am at Camp Surf YMCA (click >here< for directions):

560 Silver Strand Blvd, Imperial Beach, CA 91932

Shuttles run continuously from 6:15 - 7:30am and 9:30 - 11:30am:

* Pre-Race Shuttles: 
From: Sunset Park
To: Camp Surf for the starting line
Times: 6:15 a.m. continuously to 7:30 a.m.

(then the race will take you from Camp Surf and end at Sunset Park)

* Post-Race Shuttles: 
From: Sunset Park
To: Camp Surf
Times: 9:30 a.m.continuously to 11:30 a.m.

* Public Parking is available at both the Start (YMCA Camp Surf) and Finish (Coronado’s Sunset Park)

If you are riding your bike, at the end of the race, you can leave your bike at the "bike corral" at Sunset Park that we have set up for participants, then you can take the shuttle back to Camp Surf and drive back with your car.

If you are running/walking, the shuttle will be able to take you back to Camp Surf and you can drive back from there as well.

Will packet/bib pick-up be available in the morning prior to the race start?

I'm riding my bike for the event. Can I get a shuttle ride with my bike to get to the starting line at Camp Surf?

Bikes are not allowed on the shuttles. It is the participant's responsibility to get bikes to the start line at Camp Surf. There is public parking available at Camp Surf to leave your car while your ride your bike during the event. Once in Coronado, there is a guarded bike corral where participants can leave their bikes. This will allow them to return to Camp Surf on the free shuttle and retrieve their car. They can then return to Coronado and get their bike.

I drove my car and brought my bike for the race. At the end of the race over at Sunset Park, how can I get my bike back to Camp Surf?

Keep your bike locked up at the corral we have set up for participants. Then, take the free shuttle back to Camp Surf to get back to your car and drive up to Sunset Park to get your bike.

I'm running/walking at the event. At the end of the race over at Sunset Park, how do I get back to Camp Surf?

Take the free shuttle back to Camp Surf.

Can I run along the beach with the other runners even if I don't register?

No! There are officers along the route that look out for your race bibs. For military security purposes, if you don't have your bib, you will be turned back.

What can/can't I bring to the event?

* There are no dogs allowed in the race.
* Bring sunscreen!!
* All children riding bikes, who are under the age of 18, must wear a helmet.

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?

*No ID is required to receive your Bib. Simply provide the name you pre-registered with.
* There are no age limits for this race.
* Children who are small enough to be pushed in a Jogger or Ride in a Bike Seat do not need to register and can accompany an Adult for free.
* NOTE: Only participants who have registered and paid will receive a Bib and T-Shirt.

Is my registration/ticket transferrable?

All tickets are Non-transferable.

What is the refund policy?

There are no refunds on purchased tickets.

Can I ride a road bike on the sand?

Yes, most of our top finishers ride road bikes on the sand. Since the race takes place on the lowest tide of the month, the sand is hard packed and easy to navigate. Occasionally bikers will have to carry their bikes over seaweed and other natural obstacles, but that's what makes the race so fun and unique

Won’t my bike sink into the sand?

At low tide, any wide tire bike will really fly on the damp sand! The start time coincides with a very low ocean tide. In most areas, the course will be 50’ to 100’ wide, although the best riding and running is usually at the water’s edge. Bike helmets are required for all cyclists under the age of 18. The organizers will follow the riders on the beach in a vehicle to provide assistance and first aid.

Will the salt and sand hurt my bike?

Not if you rinse your bike after the race. Your entry fee includes a fresh water rinse and a free chain lube.

Can I walk?

Yes, the finish line closes 2 1/2 hours after the race begins.

Are there any water stations?

Yes, there will be 3 water stations along the course.

Are baby strollers or joggers allowed?

Yes. There is no additional fee.

Want to be a Vendor at this year's event?

If you want to have a booth at this year's Low Tide Ride & Stride event, here are the guidelines:

1. Vendors are free, but are encouraged to make a donation of $100 or more to the 2016 Low Tide Ride & Stride to help the various causes and charities this event supports (click here to see the causes we support).  And if you would like a higher level of exposure by getting on our marketing materials and our t-shirt, then please contribute at the $250 minimum level or more.

2. You need to provide your own gear (tent, table, chairs, etc.) and must be appropriate for a race and family atmosphere. Food is allowed if it is prepackaged or the vendor has a food handling card from the County Health Department allowing them to distribute that particular item. The City will not allow us to sell food in any manner, it must be given away for free.

3. If vendors wish to be included on our marketing materials and be acknowledged during the post race activities, you can refer to the donation chart attached:

4. Any vendors participating in the event must be set up no later than 8:30 am. The set up is in Sunset Park, which is owned by the City and has a strict no dog policy. We will expect about 1000 participants and any donations would go to:  Rotary Club of Coronado, PO Box 180487, Coronado, CA 92178-0487

All vendors who are interested should let us know about their company and what product or service they intend to promote. Most vendors will provide some sort of promotional item for our participants as a giveaway, but this is not absolutely necessary. We do try to have all vendors, who are not Non-Profit organizations, fit into our theme of being family oriented or geared towards the military. Vendors must also be able to provide their own equipment, such as tents, tables and chairs.

If you are interested, please give us some background on the company you would like to represent for our review. We appreciate your interest in our event and your support of our Wounded Veteran causes.
